I was test driving a used car from a private owner. While I was test driving the used car I got in an accident with another driver. The owner of the car was with me in the passenger seat at the time of the accident. After I found out the owner had no insurance. Am i covered for the damages done to the owners car?
In Ontario the owner of the vehicle is responsibile to maintain insurance. The owner has no recourse in law aganist a person to whom he gave permission to operate the vehicle.

My car insurance is up in November, and I need to pay for another year, but what if I am leaving to go overseass for a year in February 1 2010. Is there any way to pay insurance from November-February? I cant afford paying for the whole year if I wont even be here to drive.
I recommend that you place on a monthly payment plan. If the vehicle will be parked while you are out of the country you could delete all coverage except comprehensive. This would reduce the premium to a small monthly amount. Before driving vehicle on your return you would arrange to have the "driving" coverage added back onto the policy.
If I purchase a vehicle now,financed through a bank,but will not be driving it until Spring 2010,do I need to have full coverage on it,or will fire and theft suffice?

No. Theft of personal property would have to be covered under a Homeowners or Tenants Package policy

Yes, if the person is a legally licenced operator and has your permission they are able to drive your vehicle. However, if they have an accident while using your vehicle, the accident is rated against you (the policyholder)

What are the penalties for cancelling insurance policies that are not due until February 2011.
Cancellation penalties are outlined in the Statutory Conditions of a policy. These are governed by Provincial Statute. Normally the situation is: 1. If the Insurance Company cancels the policy they must do it on a pro-rata basis with no penalty. 2. If the policyholder cancels the policy it is on a short-rate basis. This includes a penalty for canceling the policy during the policy term. The amount of penalty depends on the type of policy and where in the term the cancellation occurs. Your broker can provide specific details.
Can I insure someone else's vehicle or home?
NO, you can not insure something you do not own. The ownership of a vehicle and the insurance must be in the same name. As well the deed for property and the insurance policy must be in the same name.
